Very rare pre 1960 louis Poulsen PH5 Ø 50 cm.

Very rare Louis Poulsen PH5. This is the second version following the introduction of the lamp in 1958. The first version still had some reflective parts, meaning the bulb was still visible, whereas the intention was that you would not be blinded by the bulb if you looked into the PH5 from underneath. In this lamp, the reflective parts have been replaced by a different anti-glare ring, and the reflective, inwardly curved inner rim of the large cap has disappeared. What has been retained, however, is the bulging top ring, which was only used on the first example and was no longer used on any subsequent PH5 lamps. So this is clearly a transitional model. Produced for a very short time, this is the second one I have come across in 15 years. And I have handled a great many PH5 lamps.

Further features of the old model are: steel threaded studs over which the spacers were slid—which later became copper, and even later brass. Holes in the top silver-colored lugs. On early lamps, the bottom cap and cover plate are made of aluminium; quite quickly, this cap and cover plate were made of steel. On old lamps, the bottom mounting cup is fitted with a tap into which the beautiful old ball-head bolt is screwed.

The first lamps are still equipped with a so-called spring mechanism that ensures the light bulb is pressed into the correct position by the spring. This mechanism was already used by Louis Poulsen in other lamps in the 1930s.

Fully resored, all parts are original, resprayed in modern shades of orange.

Suitable for modern (dimmable) led-bulbs.
